Since the beginning of 2024, significant progress has been observed among the top three cloud providers as they strive for a larger share of the global cloud market. According to findings, from Synergy Research Group, the “Big Three” collectively held a 67 percent stake in the cloud market while other competitors lagged behind with only single digit shares.

 

Synergy's data indicated a significant surge in the global cloud market, with Q1 2024 reaching a record-high of $76 billion in revenue. That’s a remarkable 21 percent increase compared to the previous year. This growth was primarily fueled by the expansion of public infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) offering, which dominated a significant portion of the market.

 

Microsoft Smashed Earning Expectations

Microsoft has consistently expanded its presence and maintained its position in the cloud industry. The Microsoft Azure platform experienced considerable progress in global cloud service market share, climbing to an unprecedented 25 percent during this quarter—a notable upturn of 2 percentage points from the same period last year.

 

In the first quarter alone, Microsoft's intelligent cloud division, heavily focused on AI, raked in a substantial revenue of $26.7 billion, contributing to an impressive annual rate of $107 billion. This showcases the company's steady expansion in the market.
